I Learn & I Live & Eileen & Olive

Eileen, my mother, is on the left and her friend Vera on the right. The doll’s name was Polly. The photograph was taken by my grandmother, Olive, in Catford, south London, in 1938. Gran was in service in west London and mum was a midwife in Lewisham Hospital. Hers was one of the first faces virtually everyone born in the borough saw for nearly 30 years.
