Description
This digital “capsule” makes reference to Lans King’s conceptual blockchain artwork called “This is my body (of work). For that work, he surgically implanted a microchip (encased in a glass capsule) into his hand. The microchip contains a secret code, information about the work itself as well as the algorithm which he uses to create his physical paintings, sculpture, and videos.
It also makes reference to “The Hyperreality Show”. As well as an ongoing documentary of his life as an artist, “The Hyperreality Show” is also the overall theme for his entire body of work.
This work literally “encapsulates” many of the idea and techniques which are used in those physical works. Lans King’s works always attempt to create a link between the real and the virtual. For example, his painting combines algorithms and digital printing as well and manual painting and drawing techniques.
The capsule is literally connected to the physical capsule in his hand in that it carries the same code as the one store on the microchip. The gif is composed of many layers: A rendering of a glass capsule, an ASCII code background (a technique that he uses in his physical paintings), and an animation based on the escape scene from the film “The Truman Show”.
